September Update

We hope that your summer was filled with fun, sun and great food! As you know, Garden Kitchen took a week off for some R&R, but now that we’re back in action we want to share a few things.

During our break, we had the opportunity to visit each of the Baja wineries that we work with. Getting to meet the owners and winemakers in Baja and visit them at their location was a special experience, and it makes it that much more special to be able to share these wines with you at Garden Kitchen. While people are learning to appreciate that Baja has amazing wines, we also had some meals which would rival any of the top restaurants in San Diego.

After this trip we can now proudly say we have gotten to visit and meet the owners or winemakers of every winery we currently work with, both north and south of the border. Of course we can’t forget about the wines available right here in our own backyard. San Diego’s local wine country also has some great offerings, in fact we just spent our Sunday afternoon in Ramona doing “research” and look forward to bringing some new red wines from Edwards Vineyard and Chuparosa Vineyards to the menu!

While these winemakers may be a country apart, they share a passion and excitement for their craft. As a small restaurant focusing on fresh, local food, it is a natural pairing to be able pour a glass of their wine in our restaurant. And speaking of wine, we are in the planning stages for our next special Baja wine pairing dinner, to be on a Sunday night in October. Stay tuned for more details…

Starting Tuesday September 27 we will be offering a $40 prix fixe menu option. This option will include your choice of appetizer, soup or salad, choice of entree and dessert. The special will be available all week, Tuesday Sept 27 through Saturday Oct 1. We expect to be busy, so reservations are recommended 619-431-5755.

As you start thinking about November and Thanksgiving, we want to let you know that Stehly Farms, one of the local, organic farms we work with, will have pasture raised turkeys available. The turkeys roam freely in the citrus orchards, get to peck around in the dirt, and are fed vegetable scraps from the farm along with grain from local breweries. And of course these are antibiotic & hormone free birds! They have plenty for sale and we highly encourage this humanely raised turkey! They will be available for pick up the week before Thanksgiving. You can purchase online at http://stehlyfarmsorganics.com/shop/ or ask Coral for more details.

Thanks for your continued support, and see you soon for your next Garden Kitchen meal!
